Join us on Wednesday, September 23, from 5:00–6:30 PM for an evening of hands-on stewardship!
Commit to keeping Barton Street East green this summer by joining our weekly Barton Street Stewardship events. Together, we care for seven green spaces along Barton Street, helping these sites thrive through regular maintenance and community care.
During this session, we’ll be:
- Removing invasive species and weeds that compete with native plants
- Creating space for native plants to grow and thrive
- Loosening and tending the soil to improve growing conditions
- Picking up litter and keeping the garden clean and welcoming
- Learning basic garden maintenance, including plant identification, weeding, pruning, and mulching
Along the way, you’ll learn more about why native plants are important and how they support pollinators, wildlife, biodiversity, and healthier urban ecosystems.
We’ll also explore Hamilton’s seven Low Impact Development (LID) depave sites along Barton Street East. These spaces were designed to help manage stormwater runoff by replacing hard surfaces with planted areas that allow water to soak into the ground through natural processes. They’re a great example of how small urban green spaces can provide important environmental benefits!
No previous gardening or stewardship experience is needed. Come learn, get your hands in the soil, meet other community members, and help care for Hamilton’s green spaces. Tools will be provided.
